I believe I should write more often, I'm just lazy, I know.

I have seen a lot of Hong Kong handover 10 years anniversary TV programmes. They made me think a lot. When people ask me where I come from, I would answer without a second thought: "I'm from Hong Kong". "Oh you're from China..." people would say, "urgh... yeees" I answer. Foreigners think my answer is odd. Chinese mainlanders think I am wierd. Sometimes people tease me by saying "Oh yeah?! I am from Amager!" Hum... Well, I guess, only Hong Kong people can truely understand the reasons and feelings behind. We belong to no country, we are simply, orphans.

This is actually very sad if you think about it. I cannot hide my face, it is written on my forehead that I am a Chinese, no doublt about that. I have no desire to hide or deny this fact. The problem is, I don't know how to sing the national anthem. I did not grow up in that culture. I do not agree on what they do a lot of the time. We think in different ways. Hongkongers and mainlanders are just like two different nations although we do share something in common. Several times I think "Should I from now on tell people that I'm from China?" "No, no way, it just feels so un-natural to say that". That is how I feel, I believe, that is also how a few million people in Hong Kong feel. Watch documentary about how the young people feel.

Look who's on the poster

My friend just mentioned about the Copenhagen Night Film Festival to me today. Look who's on the poster? Andy Lau! I know he is big in Asia, just never thought he has made this far! There is even a session called "Andy Lau and the New Breed of Hong Kong" too. I am totally impressed and suddenly felt proud of being a Hongkonger. I will definitely go and grap one of those posters and hang in on the wall. A little comment: Both "A Battle of Wits" and "Internal Affairs" are good. After watching the Internal Affairs then watched "The Departed", I "accidentally" fell asleep while I was watching the latter. It is just... uncomparable.

Amistad

A movie which I cannot forget after I have seen it, which is a totally abnormal behavior -- Amistad

DISASTER!!!

I actually had something I wanted to post, but now I got distracted because I just found something extremely important to write!!

The blogger site failed to let me in when I logged in with Firefox (failed saying cannot connect for many times) but it works instantly when I switched to IE!

Oh my god! Last night was the first time I spent a new year eve with only Brian, sitting at home quietly watching tele. It made me thought a lot about my past, all those years I used to spend with friends and families for all the big festive events. It was fun. My life has changed a lot since 2001 when I first moved to Denmark. I travelled a lot since then, this is the summary of where I spent the last six xmas and new years:
2001 Norway
2002 Hong Kong
2003 Scotland
2004 Scotland and Denmark
2005 The Gambia and Denmark
2006 Scotland and Denmark

Although I have been travelling a lot, the amount of time I actually spend sitting around at home in these years probably exceed the amount for the 20 years prior to 2001. I spend 95% of my evenings, 80% of my weekends at home. Having such a nice apartment is crucial to this living style. People always ask me why I do not go out. I just cannot find a good reason to go out. Here the shops always sell the same things and you would not really want to look at the price tags at all. Going out shopping once every half a year (during the big sale periods) seems to be good enough. Moreover, everything here only opens from 10-17 on Saturday during the entire weekend. Do not expect to go out for a wonder outside this period. Of course I can go out for dinners or movies or bowling or something. We always do this sort of things when we hang out with friends right? The problem here is, we do not have many friends (less than a handful). Even though we have been here for a while, we never manage to integrate into the Danish society. It is a shame, I know. There are various reasons for it but I will skip this details for now. Anyway, going out to do these activities with only Brian and I feels a bit awkward. Sometimes it even brings stronger loneliness when you think about it.

This is why I have been talking about moving. I do not like this and I think I have had enough. This is not me. So in 2007 I am going to make the plan comes true. I will need to find a place that will change my life back to normal, with more friends or families around. That is the goal of the year.

Christmas break in Scotland

Unlike last year's adventurous christmas in the Gambia, this christmas was back to peace, quiet and nice homeish style with lots of eating. We spent a few days in Brian's home in Scotland with his family. Sara and her friend Marianma travelled all the way from Africa back home for xmas too. Nice to see them again, it has been a year since we met in the Gambia. Christmas in the West is always the same to me, very much like Chinese New Year, people meet up with friends and families and involve continuous eating events.

Instead of Chinese New Year markets they have christmas markets, christmas trees instead of "peach flower", christmas flowers instead of little mandarin trees, presents instead of red pockets, turkeys instead of various Chinese New Year dishes. To some people Christmas is celebrating the birth of Jesus, but to a lot of them it is just a once a year family reunion, the idea is entirely the same as Chinese New Year. I have not been home for a few Chinese New Years already, not been able to receive my eldest sister's red pockets (Only married people give them). This christmas at work differs a bit from the previous two years, coz this is the first year I (or We as the old Maersk Data folks) am with IBM. At the start of the month I was quite a bit disappointed. The huge christmas trees we used to have, which were about 3 floors tall (really, they were the biggest indoor christmas trees I have seen), were shrinked into a few feets in height. I do not need to squeeze pass the reception hall to avoid walking into the tree anymore. Well, I treated it as environment friendliness to use a smaller tree. While I was thinking I might not be getting any christmas present from work this year, my thought turned into a little surprise. There were two different kinds of boxes: Mediterranean style spices and Japanese style seasoning. I got a Mediterranean one, but since both Brian and I don't drink wine and I am not really a fan of Mediterranean food, I swapped with Anders for a Jap box.
It is quite nice, with quite a few different bottles of seasoning, rice, wasabi beans, 4 big bottles of Jap beers, green tea and a nice looking cook book (in danish...) It even contains a couple pairs of chopsticks, seems to fit us well. I know it is not nice to compare I just cannot help it, compare to what we used to get, the boxes shrinked too.

Awarded

Same as before, I have not updated my blog for a significant amount of time. A few of the very few of my readers complained about it. I guess it is time to write something now since I finally have something more interesting to tell.

I have been awarded a "Bravo Award" today by the department. Set aside the actual money matter, this award means a lot to me. First of all, I have not got any award for years now. I used to be a frequent award receiver when I was in primary school. The glory years suddenly disappeared since the day I started in a band 1 secondary school. What was the good for entering a good school? I lost all the fame and confidence! I was buried! After I got kicked out (I was so glad to tell you the truth), the good days came again when I started in a lower band school. I got all the honors and attention back to me again, till I started uni. But of course, the older you get, the lesser chance you would get awarded. This I take it as an adult life. You do not get a sweet by doing your homework quick, but really need to work real hard to get noticed. So every so often you have to award your self for something, no matter a gadget or a nice dinner.

The second important meaning of this award is, I proved the statement "You cannot perform if you don't speak danish" wrong. That statement was threw on to my face not long ago. Now I can proudly say I can always perform if I have the motivation to. Perhaps you can argue that statement was part of my motivation, then I have to say thank you to the speaker. So, "Don't give up even you got looked down upon" now become my golden rule.

Sunny is gone

Sunny finally passed away on Wednesday 30/8 around 8 o'clock. The terrible cloudy and raining weather is always over my head now. Even though I have been around for a few years now I am still not comfortable with it (Who can?!) During the summer I actually thought it was the best time of the year to be in the country although half of the local population went away for holiday. Probably that was the reason -- nice and quiet! Buses during peak hours were pratically empty (normally filled with little noisy buggers going out for trips), office was spacious, no colleagues mumbling around my ears, supermarket was packed with goods nicely (don't even try to think it is normal!) and queues were short (incredible!). Although a lot of the shops and restaurants were closed for 1 month (strange enough) for summer holiday, well, who cares? I don't use them very often anyway.

A couple of weeks ago things went back to normal and it started raining. I knew the nice time was over. Just hoping my winter depression is not going to come as soon.

A few things worth while to mention have happened recently:

The trip to Hungary which I started to arrange 1 year ago finally took place and it was super nice! Interesting and charming city and nice food too. Thanks my friend Adrienn and her family to be our guides and companion.

Brian's brother Andy and his wife Erina have got a new born baby Soma on 2/8. A cute one! Congra! We'll pay a visit in Feb 2007. (They are in Japan)

A nice colleague Hedin has resigned and moved to his hometown Faero Island. God rejser!

The ongoing struggle with the customer is still going on and on so the project I have been working on is still hanging. Good that I have got a new assignment on another project to occupy half of my time and it is challenging to me. For those who didn't know, I went down to Germany to see the globally on-the-spot event -- World Cup 2006. It was not an ordinary lying-on-a-beach holiday, but a really exciting, hot, fun, crowded one plus a little bit of stressful. I don't think I have never felt so stressful on a vacation before which is not a nice thing. However I did have lots of fun during the period and it was such a special holiday, so overall I would give it a B+ mark.

It was tough enough to get this vacation arranged. All the on-demand and highly priced accommodation, troublesome transportation to connect to all the cities, and not to mention I actually bought my ticket a year ago before knowing which teams were getting into the first round. Still remember I sat in front of my computer on the first day of sales and kept refreshing my screen with the F5 button to get the latest availability while betting on which national team to buy. At last I bought South Korea and fortunately it did get qualified.

Members of this trip included my sister Wah, her boyfriend Gary, Brian and me. Wah and Gary flew to Frankfurt from Hong Kong and we met them up there. Right when we arrived they already said we would have bad luck for that trip... touch wood. But they were right. I reserved a hostel for the first two nights in Frankfurt a few months ago. When Wah and Gary arrived the hostel said they were a few minutes late and they had given the room to the others! Damn it! In the reservation it did not mention the room have to be taken before 6pm! Well, arguing was no use, they did not have any room and there was nothing they could do. We ended up having a 2 persons room and have 2 (Me and Brian) slept on the floor. We managed to find another hotel room for the following night, of course it was expensive though. The 3rd day we were supposed to pick up a rental car from a big H brand and drive to Prague. I reserved a car a few weeks before the trip and highly mentioned it needed to be automatic and be able to go to Prague and a car was chosen based on these two requirements. The company was so kind to give us a free upgrade. Offered us a nice big expensive car for no additional charge! Hell knows... that bloody car could not be driven to Prague due to security reason! We waited 4 hours at the train station for them to drive the only available car which satisfied the two requirements from another city which were 2 hours away. I was so pissed. Who said big brand is more reliable!

Gary was the driver. Scary enough to begin with, he had got less than 2 years of driving age, always drove with a speed of 30km/h in Hong Kong with a small car, and he had never driven on the right side before! Since we were already late when we got the car, we used full speed to jump onto the car and to get going. Just to mention a few things here which caused me using all of my limbs grab whatever possible in the car in order to comfort myself a little: 1) He crossed lines without looking around to make sure no car is in the way, perhaps he did... partly 2) When he braked, he lost control of how deep to press down, several times we almost hit the car in front 3) When he turned, he was not sure which line to get into on the other side 4) When he tried to turn on the left right signal, he always wrongly turned on the front wind screen wippers but still continued to change line 5) He did not have enough concentration to handle a sudden traffic event. What would you do if you were me in such a situation? Normal people would just say "Go away and sit back, I am driving!". Well, my dad always warned us not to sit in a car like this. I don't have a license and I was already in the car, what could I do?! Keep yelling at him to drive slowly and paid extra attention on the road situation for him seemed to be the only two things I could do. At the end of the first journey, a 5.5 hours trip took us 9 hours to get there and it was already 2am when we arrived. At least we were safe though, thanks god. That was exactly what I thought when I got out of the car. The poor summer house owner waited me for a whole day, I felt so sorry about it.

The day after we decided to not taking the car which was a wise decision. After such a stressful day we got to relax a little and travel around the famous city Prague. The next day, Wah suggested to go to a church which located something like 80km away from the city. I was not really that interested in seeing just a church which were so far away, but since that was what she wanted, we just followed. We got up in the morning, Gary said he knew where the church approximately was and he got all the natvigation system set up in the car. So we started another day of "exciting" driving. We drove for one and a half hour, passed a couple of road blocks due to road work. Drove into some really really small village almost impossible to see anbody around. We thought it was because we took another road than the suggested one so it took longer. After more than 2 hours of driving we finally stopped by a wee motel and asked. Jesus... the place the church was located was absolutely the opposite direction of where we were!! To get to the real place we needed to drive another 2.5 hours... Then, Gary honestly told it was only a guess that he had picked the original position on the map... I could say nothing, yet I promised myself not to trust his direction again. They insisted to continue going to the church, when we finally got there, probably you could guess what happened, the church was close. What a joke! That was really one of the worst day in my life. On the way back from the church, Gary drove really quick even though I had warned him a few times. Probably he was tired of a day of driving so he lost some of his "attention", he leaned onto a middle bar in the highway with a high speed after he continously occupying the left lane for more than 20 minutes. Everybody was shocked of course and I was sitting right on that side. To be honest, I had no fear at that moment perhaps I was more or less prepared for a accident, so to say. The left side of the car was all scrached, the side lamp was broken, and there were some small dent. I felt kinda happy from inside though, because that was the only way to make him learned and it was lucky enough that nobody got injuried. The rest of the journey was still streeful, at least I can still sit at home to type my blog now.

Enough for the exciting part. Should write some of the fun parts. However I will leave it for the next post.

New Toy

Yeah, finally ended a half-a-year long struggle and bought an el-drumset! Brian and I went to a drum shop introduced by one of my colleagues to get a new drumset on last Friday. Even it was still expensive I got a special "Bartek-price" for it which means I got a drum seat for free. It was not a super good deal but nice enough. It took me 4 hours to set that up. It was the biggest "toy" I have ever seen! Inside the big paper box lay someting like 12 boxes! After unpacking my whole living room was stuffed with paper boxes. Don't even need to listen to the sound, the look of it is cool enough to be a part of the apartment. I have been spending quite a lot of time playing on it since then trying to make it more worth while of course. :-)

I AM BACK!!

Hello everybody. After leaving my blog for 6 months now I am back. I hope my blog has survived through the winter and now wakes up nice and fresh. Still remember when I first started blogging it was also around this time of the year. Probably because it is related to my female hormone cycle, well, not really, more likely to be related to the weather.

Sorry to tell people who prefer to read Chinese that I am going to stop blogging in this artistic looking language and start using this plain and boring one. The main reason is my good friend Anders complaint I didn't have a blog which he could read. Hum... Sorry Anders putting you on the chopping board but you did give me motivation to start blogging again with an easier language. Blogging in Chinese always took me too long time, perhaps because my Chinese is deteriorating which is a shame. A good thing is I am not totally giving up my mother language. I am still trying to write Chinese, just not on my blog.

Pretty busy at work lately. Lots of deadlines. Today is the first day of my 4-days-in-a-roll public holiday. I spent a few hours rearranging the furniture in the living rooms and I have got a broken waist now. I think the place looks better now though. Planning to buy a new drumset tomorrow, woohoo~ Finally the evil has successfully beaten up the angle on my shoulder and ended my months long struggle. Evil Brian has been a part of it that is probably why. Next time when you visit me I can give you a private drum show, lalala~~

One nice thing to tell, well, this is also what Anders suggested me to blog about. I have recently joined the Online Volunteers programme runs by the United Nation Volunteer organisation (http://www.onlinevolunteering.org/). If you know me good enough you should know I couldn't live without volunteering. Once upon a time I was an ultra active volunteer for 7 years. Due to various reasons I was not able to continue and it has been almost 3 years now since I stopped. I was so excited when I first bumped into this website. It offers oppotunities for people like me who cannot involve in first line volunteering to play a part in the volunteer world. This is so great! Exactly what I have been hopping to do. I enrolled and I got my first assignment approved. I am going to translate a brochure for the Internation Poverty Center (http://www.undp-povertycentre.org/) from English to Chinese so they can spread the mission to China. See, I told you I have not given up Chinese! The brochure is longer than I expected though, this is my first assignment so I have to do it well. For people who cannot participate in frontline volunteering but are enthusiastic on helping people, I strongly recommend you to have a look on the OV website.

Apart from OV, I have also been donating on the UN World Food Programme (http://www.wfp.org/english/). My trip to the Gambia in Dec 2005 drew my attention to this issue very much. I realised people in Africa and some other places really need the attention of the rest of the World. They do require help. I have also got an idea that from now on if any of my friends are going to borrow my/Brian's DVDs, they are kindly asked to donate some money to Frances's Charity Fund. The fund I just set up 5 seconds ago. I will donate the collection to WFP. So, the next time when you borrow something please bring along some money, amount is up to you! Thank you! I hope I am not breaking the copyright by doing this.

That's all for now. I will try to keep this blog updated more frequently then it used to be.

Georgia, Soul Provider, How am I Supposed to Live Without You How am I Supposed to Live Without You完場, 大家同佢一齊唱, 氣紛好好, 最後大家都有些依依不捨, 有些觀眾離場後還哼著這首歌.

<img width='1' height='1' 而家總數係有五十六條魚呀!

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left;"
